A healthy tooth. Plaque builds up gum and bone may begin to recede. Sometimes the gum recedes with the bone and sometimes it doesn't. Either way the tooth may become mobile.
Left unchecked, plaque and calculus build up on the teeth above AND below the gum line. First we measure the depth of the pocket. The plaque and tartar can easily be removed above the gum. Below the gumline takes longer. It is essential that ALL the plaque is removed to encourage the gum to re-attach to the tooth. The pocket depth will then reduce over time.
Many people suffer from some tooth mobility. Without treatment, tooth loss is almost inevitable. A special, comfortable splint can be made to support your teeth.
Root treatments on back teeth can be more complicated because they have a number of roots. The root canals are exposed. All roots then need to be excavated making sure that the entire tooth nerve is removed. The cavity is then filled with gutta percha and the tooth then filled.
Teeth have a hard enamel surface. But poor oral hygiene can lead to a build-up of plaque which can lead to decay. If decay is left untreated the nerve of the tooth may become infected and die. This may cause an abscess.
Depending on the extent of the repair required sometimes the full top surface of the tooth is removed. A Full Onlay is then produced to replace the biting surface.
